Screen Queensland has announced the five businesses which will benefit from its Post-Production Placement Program.

The program – otherwise known as Screen Queensland’s Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Professional Development Placement Program – offers paid traineeships with a key focus on skills shortage areas.

Screen Queensland will contribute up to $50,000 per traineeship as part of the Post-Production Placement Program.

In Brisbane, Alt. VFX will hire a junior compositor, Chop Shop Post will gain a production coordinator, The Post Lounge will get an assistant sound editor, and Folklore Sound will add a junior producer/ sound supervisor. On the Gold Coast, Fika Entertainment will gain a junior visual production editor.

Each recipient will join the business for 12 months, enhancing their on-the-job experience, technical skills and expertise.

Screen Queensland’s Dr Belinda Burns, recently appointed the chief creative officer, said the PDV Professional Development Placement Program aims to meet the increasing demand for skills across post-production, sound post, virtual production and visual effects.

“Raising the state’s PDV Incentive last year to 15%, and lowering the spend threshold to $250,000, has made Queensland the most competitive PDV destination on the east coast of Australia,” Burns said.

“Championing and supporting Queensland talent through skills development and paid opportunities is crucial to ensuring the post-production sector attracts and maintains a strong pipeline of both national and international work into the state.”

Applications are now open for post professionals in the early to mid-stages of their careers who want to take on one of the new roles. They must have resided in Queensland for more than six months, and Screen Queensland encouraged those identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, female, LGBTQIA+, culturally and linguistically diverse, living with disability, regionally/remote-based and from under-represented ages and socio-economic backgrounds, to apply.

Each of the five placements will be supported by Screen Queensland with a $50,000 contribution towards their full-time salary, in accordance with MEAA industry awards.

Applications close at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 6.

Screen Queensland noted that projects including Paramount Pictures’ “The Infernal Machine” and MGA Entertainment’s “LOL Surprise! OMG – The Movie” had both recently chosen Queensland for post-production, utilising Serve Chilled and Pixel Zoo respectively.
