Amazon Prime Video has revealed a first-look at “Carrie,” Mike Flanagan‘s TV adaptation of the iconic Stephen King novel.

The show was first reported to be in the works in October 2024, with Amazon officially greenlighting it for eight episodes in April 2025.

Check out the first look images below.

The series is described as a reinvention of King’s novel. The official logline states, “Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”

Along with Howell and Sloyan, the cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tota as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

Flanagan serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on “Carrie” in addition to directing four episodes. King is also an executive producer, with Amazon MGM Studios producing.

Flanagan has become one of the most influential voices in the horror genre in recent years. He has received considerable praise for his TV shows “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” at Netflix, as well as for films like “Doctor Sleep” (itself an adaptation of King’s followup to “The Shining”) and “Gerald’s Game,” another King novel adaptation. Most recently, Flanagan adapted King’s 2020 novella “The Life of Chuck” into a film starring Tom Hiddleston.

“Carrie” was King’s first novel and was originally published in 1974. The book went on to become a best seller and was subsequently adapted into a film in 1976 with Sissy Spacek in the title role. Directed by Brian DePalma, the film grossed over $30 million on a reported budget of less than $2 million. It is widely cited as one of the best horror films of all time.
