“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has retained the Australian box office crown.
The film, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, brought in a further $17.14 million in its second weekend (Thursday, August 6th – Sunday, August 9th), bringing its total to a spectacular $55.59 million so far.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” sat in second with $5.21 million, taking its total to $47.20 million, followed by “Toy Story 5” – now eight weeks in – with $436,000 and “Moana” with $353,000.
Just weeks after “The Odyssey” became 2026’s biggest film in Australia, posting $13.44 million in its opening weekend, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” last week more than doubled that figure, bringing in $30.43 million.
With that number, the latest Marvel instalment is the biggest film this year, and now holds the record for the biggest opening weekend since 2019. It is the second biggest opening weekend of all time in Australia. According to Sony Pictures, last week’s numbers also are the biggest box office result ever recorded on a Saturday ($9.3 million) and a Sunday ($8.18 million).
“Holy Days,” starring Miriam Margolyes, Jacki Weaver and Judy Davis, debuted in No. 5 with $331,000, followed by “Minions & Monsters” with $226,000.
Olivia Wilde’s “The Invite” grossed $217,000, followed by “Super Trooper 3,” which debuted with $175,000. The top 10 was rounded out by debuts “Ice Cream Man,” which grossed $142,000, and “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” with $135,000.
