Netflix has strengthened its Australian team with the announcement that it has recruited Stan’s Head of Originals, Amanda Duthie.

Duthie is confirmed to be joining the rival streaming platform as its new Content Director for ANZ.

Duthie first joined Stan in 2021, and has worked across a number of its notable titles including “Population 11”, “Bump”, “Scrublands” and “Black Snow”.

“Amanda’s exceptional track record as a creative and her highly respected leadership within the local screen industry impressed me deeply,” Minyoung Kim, Netflix Vice President, Content (APAC ex-India), said in a statement on Monday.

“I was particularly struck by her knowledge, passion and expertise, and I look forward to working closely with her to continue the success of the ANZ slate at Netflix.”

Duthie said she is “really excited” to be joining the streamer.

“As a fan, I’ve loved seeing how Netflix has helped shape the entertainment scene with such a great mix of local and global show,” she said.

“I’ve always been passionate about telling local stories, so can’t wait to build on what’s already been achieved and work with all the talented creative partners across ANZ to take our content even further.”

In a statement given to Variety Australia, parent company Nine’s Managing Director, Streaming and Broadcast, Amanda Laing, thanked Duthie for her years with Stan.

“We thank Amanda for her significant contribution to Stan over the years, particularly in helping shape our Originals strategy and championing Australian stories,” Laing said.

“Stan is proud to be the largest commissioner of local content in Australia, and we remain committed to delivering bold, distinctive and world-class Originals for our audiences. We wish Amanda every success in her next chapter.”

Meanwhile, Netflix has also announced that Katherine Slattery, who has worked as Scripted Development Manager for Matchbox Pictures for over four years, will also join the company as Content Manager for ANZ.

“Netflix’s reputation for entertainment is unparalleled, and I can’t wait to work with Amanda, the ANZ team, and all our talented creatives to expand on the incredible legacy of our region with new shows that challenge and excite audiences,” Slattery said.

Young added: “Over the past months I’ve had the pleasure of reconnecting in person with our key partners in ANZ, and been reminded of Netflix’s vital role in the local industry. I am truly grateful for their insights.”
