‘Beef’ Creator Lee Sung Jin and ‘The Bear’ Director Joanna Calo Lead Lineup For Future Vision TV Summit

‘Beef’ Creator Lee Sung Jin and

Lee Sung Jin, award-winning director, writer and executive producer of the Netflix hit “Beef,” will bring sizzle to Future Vision, a global gathering of the TV market’s top minds, set to be presented this July in Melbourne.

Joining the “Beef” creator on the speaker’s lineup is Joanna Calo, co-showrunner, executive producer and director of the American comedy-drama series “The Bear.”

Billed as a ground-breaking TV summit, the inaugural event is designed to advance the craft of premium episodic storytelling in Australia.

Australians in Film (AiF) is hosting the event, locked in for July 15-17 at ACMI, with support from partners Screen Australia and VicScreen.

Future Vision is built on two components, an invite-only series of workshops and a broader industry-facing conference, with the third and final day a public facing schedule, organisers say.

Co-chairs are celebrated producer Bruna Papandrea (“Big Little Lies”) and writer / producer Tony Ayres (“Clickbait,” “The Slap”) with Rebecca Yeldham (“The Gift,” “Motorcycle Diaries”) serving as creative director.

“Australian television stories are now being consumed around the world, more than ever before,” comments Peter Ritchie, executive director of AiF, “but the actual commissioning of our stories has never been more competitive.”

The event, notes Ritchie, is created to “inspire courage in both creation and commissioning, and expand the international audiences for Australian premium television and narrative comedy.” He adds, “we also hope to arm Australian creatives with the knowledge and skills to adapt to the massive changes and shifting economics happening internationally.”

ABC, BINGE, Netflix and Stan have thrown their support behind the confab.
