SBS Audio will be the new name for SBS Radio in 2023 and beyond.
SBS made the rebranding announcement as part of its Upfronts presentation this week.
In making the announcement, SBS said it began more than 45 years ago as radio programs in a handful of languages, which has now evolved to a division servicing more than 60 language groups, with a growing digital audience and an increasing multiplatform focus.
The broadcaster also has podcasts, and said it recognises that the content and services that it offers are not defined by the medium of delivery. Instead, it said, the focus os on connection to community and the audiences it serves.
“SBS Audio will continue to serve the more than 5.5 million Australians who speak a language other than English at home. while SBS Pop Asia, SBS Pop Desi and SBS Chill will continue to engage all Australians through music and pop culture from around the world,” it added.
As part of the announcement, SBS also revealed it had commissioned three new original TV drama series for 2023, “Safe Home”, “While the Men Are Away” and “Erotic Stories”, and announced the Tasmanian wilderness would be home to the upcoming local iteration of “Alone”.
