Australian broadcast classic, “The Block”, is packing two anniversaries into one season, with its 21st season premiering at 7pm on July 27. The season, airing on Channel 9 and 9Now, will also include the series’ 1,000th episode.

Set in the popular getaway town of Daylesford, Victoria, 80 minutes outside of Melbourne and famous for its mineral hot springs, the season will see five pairs of contestants take on first-time challenges for the series.

The 21st season of “The Block” will star married couple Sonny and Alicia from WA, best friends Robby and Matt from SA, couple Han and Can from WA and married couples Britt and Taz and Em and Ben from WA and VIC, respectively.

Executive producer Julian Cress believes the contestant lineup echoes the classic feel of “The Block.” “What the audience can expect this year is what I would call a classic Block series,” he said. “We have a really diverse cast of hard-working people who are very competitive, engaged with their design, and of course we will have some high and lows.”

This time, the contestants will be building pre-designed houses of the same size and layout from scratch, with all-nighters and after-hours work forbidden for an added crunch time and demand for time management.

Joining the contestants are veteran host and co-host Scott Cam and Shelley Craft, with judges Marty Fox, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer and foreman Dan Reilly. On the new challenge of building homes from scratch, Scott Cam said, “Since all the houses have identical layouts, it really comes down to the contestants’ own creativity where they’ll have to think outside the box to catch the judges’ eye for a win.”

Shelley Cam shares that opinion, saying, “For the contestants, it’s a fresh start every week. Rather than a dirty, grubby, messy start where they had to demolish a room and rebuild it in a week, coming into a clean frame is a much better mindset to be in.”

“The Block” Season 21 will premiere at 7pm on July 27, with new episodes weekly on Channel 9 and 9Now.
