The ABC is releasing a new six-part entertainment series exploring the science and psychology behind crime, hosted by Julia Zemiro, premiering in November.
“Crime Night!” is described as a mix of comedy, criminology, and curiosity. The show sees Zemiro joined each week by criminologists Professor Danielle Reynald and Dr David Bartlett, alongside a rotating panel of Australian comedians, including Celia Pacquola, Mel Buttle, Claire Hooper, Rhys Nicholson, Susie Youssef, Nick Cody, Ryan Shelton, Lizzy Hoo, Alexei Toliopoulos and Steph Tisdell. Together, they will unpack different areas of criminal behaviour.
Each episode will feature a unique “Experiment of the Week”, where panellists or the studio audience become unwitting accomplices in testing long-held assumptions about crime and human behaviour. Adding to the mix is comedy sensation, Lou Wall, who delivers their own analysis on a quirky criminal curiosity tied to the week’s theme.
While “Crime Night!” will be grounded in insightful analysis from the criminologists, it also blends real-life criminal cases, witty storytelling and entertaining social experiments to expose the frailties, illusions and delusions of our very human obsession with crime.
The series is produced by Dreamchaser with EPs Carl Fennessy and Monique Keller, and Maverick Entertainment with EPs David Forster, Frank Bruzzese, and Zemiro, in association with the ABC’s EP Michiko Smith and head of entertainment Rachel Millar. ABC Commercial is handling world distribution.
“Crime Night!” is premiering on Wednesday, November 5 at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
