A man who grabbed Ariana Grande at the premiere of “Wicked: For Good” in Singapore last week has been sentenced to nine days in prison.
BBC News reported that Johnson Wen was found guilty of being a public nuisance in a Singapore court on Monday. As shown in a viral video, the 26-year-old Australian jumped over a barricade at the musical sequel’s Asian premiere on Thursday and rushed at Grande, who was protected by her co-star Cynthia Erivo.
According to local media, Wen pleaded guilty to the incident. The court heard on Monday that Wen attempted to intrude on the red carpet twice — once when he charged at Grande and another time after he was escorted out by security. Wen told the judge that he would “not do it again.”
Wen often posts on social media about getting close to celebrities at events and premieres. He has previously found his way on stage at the concerts of Katy Perry, the Weeknd, the Chainsmokers and others. On his Instagram story the day after the “Wicked: For Good” premiere, Wen posted that he was “free after being arrested.”
Though Grande has not publicly commented on the incident, Erivo alluded to it during a screening in Los Angeles over the weekend. “We have come through some shit,” Erivo said about the film’s press tour. “I mean, fuck, even this last week, let’s be honest.”
Grande, Erivo and the rest of the “Wicked: For Good” cast will make their final stop in New York City on Monday night before the film opens in theaters Nov. 21.
