Red Faces will be back on screens this month, with the Seven Network announcing two specials celebrating the segment.

Red Faces was a mainstay of variety show “Hey, Hey It’s Saturday” which recently celebrated its own milestones with a TV special.

The Red Faces specials will be dubbed “The Best of The Best and Worst of Red Faces” and “The Very Best of The Best and Worst of Red Faces”, and will screen at 7:00pm on Sunday, July 17 and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18.

The segment started life as a send up of “New Faces”, a popular talent show at the time.

The specials will be hosted by Daryl Somers, who fronted the program when it kicked off on Channel 9 in 1971 all the way through to 1999. He was also at the helm when it was revived in 2009 by the Nine Network, and when the Seven Network brought it back for the 50th special last year.

Each week, a cavalcade of famous faces joined the “Prince of Punishment”, Red Symons, with judges over the years including Dannii Minogue, Jo Beth Taylor, Paul Mercurio, Rhonda Burchmore and Vince Sorrenti.

The specials will also show highlights from the likes of Will Smith, Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Hugh Grant, Tina Turner, Johnny Depp, Shaquille O’Neal, Sir Cliff Richard, Dam Edna Everage, Ricky Martin, Sir Bob Geldof, Samantha Fox, Guy Pearce, Boy George, Julian Lennon, Jean Claude Van Damme, Mel Gibson, Sir Ian Botham, Fabio, Linda Evangelista, Russell Crowe and John McEnroe who appeared on the program over the years.

Channel 7 said the shows will celebrate the madness and mayhem of the segment and take a fun look back at some of the most funny, wild and peculiar acts ever to grace the stage.

Somers said the show would induce teats of laughter.

“We put these shows together with a box of tissues by our side to wipe away the tears of laughter,” he said. “Reliving so many funny moments of Red Faces was an absolute blast and I thank the thousands of acts that made it so.”
