Tom Hanks is set to return to Australia to join his fellow ‘Elvis’ cast mates and director Baz Luhrmann on the red carpet.
Hanks will join Luhrmann, Catherine Martin and stars Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge at the Gold Coast premiere on June 4.
He will then appear again at the Sydney premiere at The State Theatre on June 5.
Hanks plays Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker, in the film. It explores the dynamic relationship between the two across two decades, from Elvis’ (Butler) rise to fame to the changing cultural landscape of America.
Universal Pictures, on behalf of Warner Bros. Pictures, said many of the film’s 95 Australian cast members are also expected to attend the gala event before a private after party with surprise musical guests on the Gold Coast.
The entire film was shot on the Gold Coast in 2020 with the support of the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland and the Australian Government’s Producer Offset program.
In addition, director Luhrmann will join TV host and podcaster Marc Fennell as part of Vivid’s Global Storytellers series before the Sydney premiere.
In the chat with Fennell, Luhrmann will chart his rise from small town New South Wales to the heights of Hollywood and the trials and tribulations along the way.
