Everything Coming to Netflix in May 2022

May marks the return of several notable Netflix fan favourites which, given the streaming platform’s very recent and highly public troubles, couldn’t have come at a better time.

On May 27th, “Stranger Things” returns after an almost three-year hiatus. The fourth season will be dropped in two halves, with Part 2 set to follow in July. Part 1 should be plenty for now: our heroes are fully divided, with the Byers family – including Eleven – having relocated to California, leaving the likes of Mike, Dustin, Max, and Lucas behind in Hawkins. Hopper, meanwhile, is incarcerated in a Russian prison, with escape seeming difficult.

There has been much discussion at the reportedly extortionate budgets for each new episode of “Stranger Things”, so it’s only fair to expect some spectacular action and special effects.

Arriving one week before Stranger Things is the new season of “Love, Death & Robots”, Netflix’s popular animated anthology series. There’s only nine episodes in season three, so there should be a lot of existential pondering and haunting animation into that shorter runtime.

May will see several iconic action films make their way to Netflix, including Steven Spielberg’s 2005 adaptation of “War of the Worlds”, starring Tom Cruise at the peak of his powers. There’s also the arrival of not one but two Sylvester Stallone films: “Rambo” and “Rambo: First Blood” both debut on the first of the month.

In terms of new titles, Rebel Wilson is back in “Senior Year”, her first film role in three years since the accursed “Cats”. This 13 Going on 30-esque comedy outing should prove more suited to her talents: Wilson plays Stephanie Conway, a popular high school cheerleader who, after suffering a head injury just before prom, wakes from a 20-year coma to discover that she’s now a 37-year-old woman. “The Afterparty” alumni Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao round out a stellar supporting cast.
