“Bump” Season 3 is set to premiere on Stan on Dec. 26.
The series is produced by Australian production company Roadshow Rough Diamond and was co-created by Kelsey Munro and Claudia Karvan, who also stars as Angie Davis.
Season 3 is directed by Kriv Stenders (“Red Dog”), Geoff Bennett (“Wolf Creek”), Margie Beattie (“Bump” Season 1 and Season 2) and Rebecca O’Brien (“The Unlisted”).
“Bump” first premiered on Jan. 1, 2021 and broke all previous viewing records for Stan. Season 2 dropped on Boxing Day last year.
At the Screen Forever conference earlier this year, Karvan implied there was a big shift coming for the program’s third season.
“[In] series three, yeah, there is a massive rug pull – which I don’t think is manipulative at all – but it’s really exciting,” she said.
This ‘rug pull’ appears to be a five-year time jump between Season 2 and Season 3, as revealed in the new trailer.
Karvan also explained how the storytelling had evolved given it was originally a one-series show. If the team had known there would be three seasons from the get-go, she said, it may have changed their approach to storytelling.
“We may have been tempted to build in a story engine which it doesn’t really naturally have,” she said.
“And certainly when we came around to the second series, we’re not manipulative and going ‘Let’s have another baby’, or ‘Let’s have a death’, or ‘Let’s try and keep up to speed with series one’. We just had to bed down with those characters and trust that we’ve got a loyal audience.”
