“Practical Magic 2,” starring Australia’s own Nicole Kidman, has cast a spell over the local box office, debuting at No. 1.
Including advance screenings, the long-awaited sequel conjured up $2.99 million locally over the weekend (Thursday, September 10th – Sunday, September 13th), ending the six-week reign of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” at the top of the chart.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” held onto second place in its ninth weekend, adding another $1.30 million to its blockbuster run. The epic has now crossed the $65 million mark at the Australian box office and has become Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing film in its 114-year history.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” slipped to third, taking another $1.24 million. The Tom Holland and Zendaya-led superhero film has now amassed $85.6 million locally.
Another new release, “PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie,” opened in fourth place with $1.01 million. Advance screenings pushed its cumulative total to $1.67 million. Music documentary “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger,” following the British rock band’s 2025 reunion tour, rounded out the top five with a $481,000 debut.
“Runner” opened at No. 6 with $468,000 including advance screenings, while “Hope” followed in seventh place with $430,000. Last week’s highest new entry, Hindi-language title “Mirzapur: The Movie,” fell from third to eighth place, adding another $290,000 and taking its Australian total to $1.08 million.
“Insidious: Out of the Further” landed at No. 9 with $265,000, bringing its local haul to $3.33 million. Rounding out the top 10 was thriller “Fall 2: Deadpoint,” which added $262,000 for a cumulative Australian box office of $850,000.
