ARN Won’t Announce New KIIS Breakfast Show Until 2027

Kyle & Jackie O

The head of ARN has revealed the Breakfast slot left vacant by Kyle & Jackie O will not be replaced until next year.

After splitting earlier this year, the rumour mill has thrown out a bunch of names that could replace the radio heavyweights, including Kris Fade and Abbie Chatfield.

However, in a new interview with Mediaweek, ARN’s Director of Content, Dave Cameron, said that they intend to make a permanent change in the slot from 2027.

“We’re building a strategy for 2027 onwards,” he said.

“Anything that happens earlier will be a bonus, but the strategy is for 2027 onwards, as it takes time to put things in place and will have an element of familiarity.”

It comes after the fourth GfK radio ratings survey of 2026 (survey period Sunday, April 19th to Saturday, June 27th) delivered a mixed result for the country’s biggest broadcasters.

In Sydney, SmoothFM once again won the radio wars, even increasing their share by 0.3 points to 13.4%, well clear of 2GB on 11.7%. The real movement, however, is further down the ladder – GOLD101.7 has taken the market’s biggest hit, and KIIS1065’s Breakfast has lost ground for a second straight survey. Overall movers, ABC Sydney led the gainers, up 0.7 to 5.3%, with SEN 1170am and 2JJJ both up 0.4 (to 1.9% and 3.7%).

In his first interview since the pair called it quit, Kyle Sandilands opened up about the controversy on the Game Changers Radio podcast last month.

“[It was] devastating to me the entire thing,” he said.

“The accusations, the job falling apart and the show falling apart were one thing. But to feel that I wasn’t sure what was real and what wasn’t was real at one stage with the whole Jackie situation, because I’ve always thought we were very open.

“Over a decade ago, we said nothing’s off limits between us, and if we do cross a line, we’ll let each other know verbally or visually if it’s a live thing. And that never happened. So I was devastated if that was how she was feeling.”
