The fifth episode of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” opened with a sketch mocking Keir Starmer’s choice of Peter Mandelson as British ambassador to the U.S.
The sketch featured Al Nash as Jeremy Clarkson – a.k.a. “fake farmer and real asshole” – as the host of “Who Wants to Remain a Millionaire?” and George Fouracres as Starmer. The question posed was, “Is it ever a good idea to give Peter Mandelson a job?” His possible answers were: A: No; B: Of course, not; C: Not in a million years; D: Yes.
When Starmer goes 50/50, he’s left with the choice between: C: Not in a million years, and D: Yes. But he still can’t decide, so he calls a friend, and his choice of a friend is … Mandelson.
Mandelson – described by Clarkson as a “pedophile adjacent Bond villain” – is wearing a dressing gown with a JE monogram, bathed in red light. Mandelson, played by Larry Dean, says: “[Give] me a job? I’d be careful if I were you.” Starmer still can’t decide, but pushed by Clarkson he says, “D: Yes.”
This week’s episode was hosted by “Bridgerton’s” Nicola Coughlan and featured Foo Fighters as the musical guest.
Alongside the weekly host, Nash, Fouracres and Dean, “SNL U.K.” stars Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Celeste Dring, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young.
“SNL U.K.” is produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio’s U.K. production team and Broadway Video for Sky and NOW. Lorne Michaels is executive producing, James Longman serves as lead producer, Liz Clare is the director and Daran Jonno Johnson is the head writer.
