Nearly five million Australians tuned in to the ABC’s New Year’s Eve coverage, marking a 6% viewership increase from the previous year.

2025’s 4.6 million viewers was up from 4.4 million in 2024, with the live concert also garnering a larger audience, up 200,000 from 2024. On ABC iview, total NYE2025 coverage reached 708,000 viewers, lifting by a massive 49% compared to NYE2024.

ABC hosts Charlie Pickering and Zan Rowe once again led the broadcast, delivering a celebration of music and entertainment to viewers near and far. ABC’s coverage featured standout performances from global pop icon Melanie C and Australian favourites Matt Corby, The Cat Empire, Peach PRC, Marcia Hines, Casey Donovan, Don West, Jem Cassar-Daley and Ayesha Madon, complemented by the City of Sydney’s world-class fireworks.

The broadcaster was, unsurprisingly, the No. 1 network in primetime across TV and BVOD, with a share of 35.3% between 5pm and midnight. This was also up from last year, which was 32.9%. ABC iview also had dominant share of the BVOD audience at 42.9% across primetime.

The midnight fireworks display reached 2.4 million viewers across ABC TV and ABC iview, with 35% reach growth on ABC iview alone. Including the simulcast on ABC News channel, the fireworks reached 2.7 million viewers, 10% higher compared to last year.

ABC’s Head of Arts, Music and Events, Kath Earle said: “The ABC is proud to partner with the City of Sydney to bring the iconic Sydney fireworks and our New Year’s Eve concert to audiences across Australia and around the world on ABC TV, ABC iview, ABC Australia, ABC Radio, and our digital and social platforms.

“My sincere thanks to everyone involved, particularly our dedicated ABC team, for their tireless work on this special event. Wishing everyone a happy and safe New Year.”
