“Saturday Night Live” revealed their own version of Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series on the Dec. 13 episode of the late night sketch show.
The “SNL” spin was dubbed “Characters on Characters,” and invited some iconic holiday favorites to interact — including a discussion between Rudolph (host Josh O’Connor) and A Partridge in a Pear Tree (Bowen Yang); The Grinch (Mikey Day) and Scrooge (James Austin Johnson); Little Drummer Boy (Kenan Thompson) and Tiny Tim (Marcello Hernández); and Mrs. Claus (Chloe Fineman) and The Grandma from “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” (Ashley Padilla).
Spoofing the in-depth conversations on craft that often take place during “Actors on Actors,” the discussions got deep, including Rudolph’s lack of formal training before pulling Santa’s sleigh; the Partridge becoming a “chosen family” with the other days of Christmas; the Grinch shooting on location in Whoville; Scrooge saying he didn’t improv his iconic words written by Charles Dickens; Little Drummer Boy saying his iconic line “Pa rum pum pum pum”; Mrs. Claus worrying that the Grandma was actually dead; and included many other seasonal pop culture jokes.
O’Connor hosted this week’s episode of “SNL,” with musical guest Lily Allen.
This season’s edition of Actors on Actors includes lively chats between pairings like Ariana Grande (“Wicked: For Good”) and Adam Sandler (“Jay Kelly”); Julia Roberts (“After the Hunt”) and Sean Penn (“One Battle After Another”); Dwayne Johnson (“The Smashing Machine”) and Brendan Fraser (“Rental Family”); Oscar Isaac (“Frankenstein”) and Teyana Taylor (“One Battle After Another”); and Jennifer Lawrence (“Die My Love”) and Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”).
The current 23rd edition of “Actors on Actors” marks the start of a new partnership between Variety and CNN. Starting Dec. 5, episodes have exclusively premiered on CNN’s new streaming platform before airing on Variety‘s YouTube page.
