The first plot details about Rachel Sennott’s HBO series “I Love LA” have been revealed in a new trailer.
The new footage introduces Sennott as Maia, a staffer at a talent management company who is vying to be promoted to a junior manager position when Tallulah (Odessa A’zion), a frenemy she’s lost touch with who is a social media influencer, reappears in her life.
“Luck is just when preparation meets opportunity. Hustle until your idols become your rivals,” Maia says to herself in the mirror before the trailer cuts to a scene of her being rejected for her promotion. She goes home after work to tell her boyfriend Dylan (Josh Hutcherson) about her day when Tallulah runs towards her, wearing nothing but a towel and screaming, “Surprise, you little bitch!” Maia doesn’t look excited to see her.
When Tallulah remarks that the apartment looks familiar, Maia says it’s the apartment the two of them were supposed to move into together in the past. “And you’re still here?” Tallulah asks, shocked, which offends Maia. In another scene, Maia tells her friends Alani (True Whittaker) and Charlie (Jordan Firstman), “I made her successful. I can do it for other bitches.”
Still, Maia and Tallulah continue spending more time together, partying and spending time with various eccentric Los Angeles characters. The friendship puts strain on Maia’s relationship with Dylan, who says, “Those kind of people have this, like, endless ambition. They want success and money and a nice house and all these things.” Later in the trailer, he asks Maia, “Do you realize that you are so different ever since Tallulah got here?”
“I Love LA” will premiere on Nov. 2, with episodes dropping weekly until the finale on Dec. 21. Sennott executive produces with Emma Barrie, Aida Rodgers, Max Silvestri and Lorene Scafaria, and directors include Sennott, Scafaria, Bill Benz and Kevin Bray. Along with the main cast, the series features guest stars such as Leighton Meester, Moses Ingram, Lauren Holt, Elijah Wood, Quenlin Blackwell, Josh Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Colin Woodell and Tim Baltz.
