Georgie Tunny is staying at Network 10. Following the axing of “The Project,” the popular presenter and host will take her journalistic talents to 10 News+, the network’s brand-new 6pm news and current affairs program.
“I’ve always been a fan of news delivered differently and am excited to be staying with the 10 family,” she comments in a statement, issued Thursday, July 3. “Can’t wait to see where this new chapter leads.”
Tunny will pursue sport, news, and more at 10 News+, which launched this week, promising a format of premium, in-depth news, current affairs and insight.
“I’m delighted Georgie is joining us at 10 News+ and I am looking forward to seeing the stories with heart that she can produce for us,” comments Martin White, VP News, Paramount Australia. “Georgie is a standout journalist with a remarkable ability to connect with people and uncover the moments that resonate most.”
The free-to-air network recently swung the axe on its early evening schedule by creating a extended slot for news and a new, later spot for “Deal or No Deal.”
As a result of those changes, “The Project” was shunted. The current affairs show aired for the last time on Friday, June 27, ending a stretch of almost 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes.
10 News+ premiered Monday, June 30, and is anchored Sunday to Thursday by investigative journalist Denham Hitchcock and Walkley Award-winning journalist Amelia Brace. Veteran reporters Ursula Heger and Hugh Riminton lead coverage every Friday.
