ABC has dropped the first full-length trailer for its revival of the beloved medical sitcom “Scrubs.” The trailer shows Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes reprising their iconic characters alongside new and familiar faces in the series’ main hospital setting, Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Created by Bill Lawrence, “Scrubs” initially premiered on NBC in 2001. The show followed Braff as Dr. John Dorian (J.D.) in his early years as a doctor, navigating doctor-patient relationships, wacky co-workers and young adulthood in a harsh and absurd, but rewarding profession.
NBC aired the show for seven seasons before cancelling it in 2008. ABC then picked it up for an eighth season in 2009 and renewed it for a ninth season in 2010. The ninth season was initially pitched as a spinoff, titled “Scrubs: Medical School.” Only Faison and McGinley returned as series regulars in Season 9 before ABC cancelled the series.
The revival will introduce new cast members Vanessa Bayer, Joel Kim Booster, Ava Bunn, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow. Robert Maschio and Phill Lewis will also return from the original series’ cast.
“Scrubs” veterans Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra serve as executive producers and showrunners on the revival series. Additional executive producers include Braff, Faison, Chalke and Lawrence via Doozer Productions as well as Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.
The revival is produced by 20th Television and will debut on ABC on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. All episodes will also be available to stream on Hulu.
