Prime Video is heading back to the world of Elle Woods, with the streamer unveiling the first trailer for “Elle,” the upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel series set to premiere on July 1st.
The eight-episode series travels back to 1995, long before Elle Woods became the iconic Harvard Law School student audiences met in the 2001 film. Instead, “Elle” follows a teenage Woods as she navigates the chaos of high school, from complicated friendships and first romances to the kind of fashion choices only the mid-’90s could inspire.
According to the official synopsis, the series explores the formative experiences that shape the future lawyer and cultural icon, while placing a strong focus on her relationship with her family – particularly her mother.
Prime Video also confirmed that “Elle” has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut.
The series stars newcomer Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods, stepping into the role made famous by Reese Witherspoon. The cast also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva, and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt.
Supporting cast members include Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker and Amy Pietz, while recurring appearances come from familiar faces including the late James Van Der Beek and David Burtka.

Created by Laura Kittrell, whose previous credits include “High School” and “Insecure,” the series is co-showrun with Caroline Dries. Witherspoon serves as an executive producer through her company Hello Sunshine, alongside Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, Marc Platt and Brad Van Arragon. “Pitch Perfect” director Jason Moore directed the first two episodes and also executive produces.
Australian fans will have an extra reason to celebrate the launch. Prime Video confirmed Minetree will visit Sydney in July as the final stop on the show’s global promotional tour. The trip will coincide with the series premiere and mark the 25-year legacy of the “Legally Blonde” franchise.
As part of the visit, Prime Video will host a special Sydney launch event featuring Minetree, offering fans and media an opportunity to step into the world of “Elle” ahead of the show’s debut.
The streamer is also commemorating the anniversary of “Legally Blonde” with “Elle World,” a one-day immersive event in New York City featuring themed activations, exclusive merchandise and other franchise-inspired experiences.
Prime Video’s “Elle” will premiere on July 1st.
