Stan executive director Dan Taylor is heading to the Melbourne Football Club in a major executive shake-up that comes as tensions continue to simmer behind the scenes at the AFL club.

Taylor has spent four years with Stan in various roles, including chief financial and strategy officer, acting managing director, and most recently, executive director. There, he oversaw Stan Entertainment and Stan Sport, including business strategy, content proposition, platform experience, marketing (including brand, media, social, PR and comms), business development & growth initiatives and other key operational functions.

Details of his new role at Melbourne Football Club have not been formally outlined, however, the move signals a strategic pivot by the club as it looks to bolster its executive ranks. According to the club’s website, Taylor has been a director since December.

His appointment was confirmed by Nine’s Eddie McGuire, who described Taylor as “a bloke with tremendous credentials.” It comes against a backdrop of instability at Melbourne, following recent leadership developments, including the departure of CEO Paul Guerra.

In comments to Nine, Guerra said he was blindsided by the board’s decision and confirmed he had sought legal advice.

“It’s been a challenging day. I’m puzzled by the decision made by the board today,” he said. “I’m really proud of the team that we’ve put together in a really short period of time, and I’m really proud of the role that I’ve played in the success of the club.

“I have engaged lawyers, and there’s not much more I can say at this point.”
