Julia Louis-Dreyfus stopped by Stephen Colbert‘s “The Late Show” for one last interview before the CBS late night franchise comes to an end on Thursday, May 21. While she was on to promote her new movie, “The Sheep Detectives,” Louis-Dreyfus had a ruthless surprise in store for Colbert when she resurrected her “Veep” character Selena Meyer in order to roast him. The actor notably won six consecutive Emmys for playing Selina during “Veep’s” seven season run on HBO.
“You know how much I love you,” Louis-Dreyfus told Colbert near the end of their interview. “I wanted to add to the chorus to boost you along to whatever brilliant thing you do next. Since I know you’re a huge fan of ‘Veep,’ I got some of the writers together to write a ‘Veep’-style tribute to you. I will read them to you as Selina Meyer.”
Louis-Dreyfus then effortlessly stepped back into Selena’s venomous shoes, rattling off dirty jokes such as: “You’re Irish, but you decided to pronounce your name to sound French? That’s like putting lipstick on a pig, which I understand Irish people do before they fuck it.”
She got political and ribbed Trump by quipping: “Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re as relevant as the Bill of Rights” and “your cancellation gave Donald Trump so much pleasure I always think of you as the Stormy Daniels of late night.”
“So we have watched you age on camera from a spunky kid on ‘The Daily Show’ to a cancelled old late-night host whose jowls look like the scrotum of… well, a cancelled old late-night show,” Louis-Dreyfus as Selena continued to uproarious laughter from “The Late Show” studio audience.
Colbert broke down in laughter when the “Veep” star joked: “When my people said I should come and say farewell to you, I was hoping it would be more of a hospice situation” and “I don’t want you to worry, the only reason everyone rallied around Jimmy Kimmel is because he’s more popular.”
Louis-Dreyfus-as-Selina also advised Colbert: “All you’ve really got to do is hold on until the corporate jizz guzzler who fires you gets fired, and he’ll be gone once he runs out of new cities for ‘NCIS.’”
