Big Mistakes” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

The announcement was made as part of Netflix’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Wednesday. Also included in the announcement that series creator and star Dan Levy will transition to a first-look TV deal with Netflix when his current overall deal with the streamer ends.

“Very grateful and beyond excited to continue the ‘Big Mistakes’ adventure and my creative collaboration with Netflix,” Levy said in a statement. “Season 2 is already in the works and it’s going to be WILD. I can’t wait to get it out there to everyone as soon as humanly possible.”

Levy starred in Season 1 of “Big Mistakes” alongside Taylor Ortega, Laurie Metcalf, Abby Quinn, Boran Kuzum, Jack Innanen, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Ilia Volok, Jacob Gutierrez, and Joe Barbara. The logline for the show states:

“‘Big Mistakes’ follows Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Ortega), two deeply incapable siblings who are in over their heads when a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the world of organised crime. Blackmailed into increasingly dangerous assignments, they clumsily fail upwards, sinking deeper into chaos they’re ill-equipped to handle.”

The series debuted on April 9 and spent two weeks in the Netflix global top 10 English language TV chart. It peaked at the number three spot in its second week, drawing 4.4 million views. Netflix defines a view as total hours viewed divided by total runtime.

Levy serves as the series’ showrunner and executive producer in addition to co-creating it with fellow executive producer Rachel Sennott. Additional executive producers are Anne-Marie McGintee for Levy’s Not a Real Production Company, director Dean Holland, Etan Frankel, and Timothy Greenberg.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Dan and bring more of his wonderfully funny and compelling stories to life,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s vice president of Comedy Series, US. “‘Big Mistakes’ is the most recent example of Dan’s singular voice and vision connecting with audiences around the world. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for season two.”

Levy’s first-look deal marks the latest instance of a big name creator and a platform like Netflix not extending an existing overall deal. The Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions transitioned to a first-look deal with Netflix in 2024 after having been under an overall deal at the streamer since 2018. It was then announced earlier this year that Higher Ground would go independent when the first-look deal ends. Likewise, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s high-profile deal at Amazon transitioned to a first-look in 2025.
