The 98th Academy Awards have come and gone, with several local names striking out on Hollywood’s biggest night.
The ceremony, hosted by Conan O’Brien, was largely dominated by “One Battle After Another” – which won six awards including Best Picture, Best Director (Paul Thomas Anderson) and Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn) – and “Sinners,” which took out four gongs, including Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan).
Australia’s Rose Byrne was nominated for Best Actress for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”, which she won the Golden Globe for last month, while Jacob Elordi scored a Best Supporting Actor nomination for “Frankenstein”.
Music legend Nick Cave was up for Best Original Song – “Train Dreams” for the Netflix film which stars fellow Australian Joel Edgerton, who missed out on a Best Actor nomination. Fiona Crombie was nominated for Best Production Design for her work on “Hamnet”, while Guido Wolter, who worked on “Sinners”, was up for Best Visual Effects. Unfortunately, no Australians won on the night.
