The script for the next “Fast and Furious” movie, titled “Fast Forever,” made Vin Diesel cry, but director Louis Leterrier still hasn’t read what gave the actor the waterworks.
“It is the best script I have read in decades,” Diesel wrote on Instagram about the 11th “Fast and Furious” film, penned by Michael Lesslie. But Leterrier, who directed 2023’s “Fast X” and is returning for “Fast Forever,” still hasn’t seen the script, he told Polygon while on the press tour for his upcoming sci-fi horror “The Last House.”
“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” Leterrier said when asked about the “Fast Forever” script. “There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin and I love Universal. They’re great to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully.”
Earlier this year, Diesel announced a March 2028 release date for “Fast Forever,” which was initially expected to enter production soon after “Fast X” premiered in 2023. However, the film has been hit by delays. “Fast X” grossed $714 million worldwide and ended with a cliffhanger, teasing the returns of Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson in two post-credit scenes.
Lesslie was announced to be writing the script in March 2026. Sources told Variety that he rewrote a script previously written by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean, the latter of whom was involved with the story for “Fast X.” Lesslie’s credits include “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” “Assassin’s Creed,” “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” and “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which hits theatres Nov. 20.
“Fast Forever” is slated for a March 17, 2028, release.
