Australian audiences will experience a new era of at home entertainment as Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) launches its premium streaming platform, Max, on March 31.

Bringing together content from HBO, Warner Bros., DC Universe, Discovery, Cartoon Network and more, Max promises a diverse slate of blockbuster movies, hit TV series, and timeless classics.

One of the biggest drawcards for Australian viewers is Max’s commitment to streaming HBO and Max Originals at the same time as their US premieres.

Among the highly anticipated releases is the return of “The Last of Us” on April 14, ensuring local fans won’t have to wait to catch the latest episodes.

Film lovers will also benefit from an accelerated release window for Warner Bros. movies, meaning major titles like “Barbie,” “Wonka,” “Twisters,” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will land on Max shortly after their theatrical runs.

The platform’s TCM hub further expands the offering, giving cinephiles access to Hollywood classics such as “Casablanca,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “A Clockwork Orange.”

Max will offer three subscription tiers—Basic with Ads, Standard, and Premium—allowing users to choose a plan that best suits their viewing habits. As an introductory offer, Australians who subscribe by April 30 can access discounted rates for the first 12 months.

  • Basic with Ads: $7.99/month (launch price) for two simultaneous streams in Full HD.
  • Standard: $11.99/month (launch price) with ad-free content, Full HD streaming, and up to 30 downloads.
  • Premium: $17.99/month (launch price) offering 4K resolution, Dolby Atmos sound, and up to 100 downloads.

Post-launch, regular pricing will apply, starting at $11.99 per month for the Basic plan and going up to $21.99 per month for Premium.

Michael Brooks, General Manager of Warner Bros. Discovery Australia and New Zealand, said Max will offer a distinct streaming proposition in the market. “Max’s breadth and depth of premium entertainment is unparalleled, and for the first time, Australians can enjoy all of this world-class content in one place.”

Max subscribers will enjoy iconic HBO series such as “House of the Dragon,” “Euphoria,” “Succession,” and “The White Lotus,” as well as upcoming titles like “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” and “IT: Welcome to Derry”.

Additionally, Warner Bros.’ legendary franchises—including Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the DC Universe—will be available, alongside beloved TV shows like “Friends,” “The Big Bang Theory,” and “The Sopranos.”

For younger viewers, the Cartoon Network and CARTOONITO hubs will feature family-friendly favourites such as “Adventure Time,” “Looney Tunes,” and “Teen Titans Go!.”

Reality TV and factual entertainment fans won’t miss out either, with Discovery and TLC hits like “90 Day Fiancé,” “Naked and Afraid,” and “Dr Pimple Popper” included in the mix. Local productions such as “Outback Opal Hunters” and “Aussie Gold Hunters” will also be available.

Max will be available for subscription via www.max.com and through app stores from March 31, 2025.
