Prime Video has locked in the premiere date for “Top End Wedding” follow-up “Top End Bub.”
Starring Miranda Tapsell and Gwilym Lee, who reprise their roles as Lauren and Ned from the 2019 rom-com, the eight-part series is set to debut on Friday, September 12, 2025 in Australia and New Zealand.
“Top End Bub” follows a return trip to Darwin for Indigenous lawyer Lauren and her husband Ned. In the film, the couple visited the Northern Territory capital for their nuptials, and to help Lauren’s father (Huw Higginson) after her mother (Ursula Yovich) had gone AWOL. In the new streaming spinoff, the repeat trek from Adelaide comes in the wake of a tragedy, after Lauren’s sister Ronelle (Shari Sebbens) dies in a car accident.
The series is due to live up to its name thanks to the now-orphaned Taya (debutant Gladys-May Kelly), with Lauren and Ned becoming their niece’s guardian.

Yovich, Higginson and Sebbens are also returning to the cast, as are Elaine Crombie, Rob Collins and Tracy Mann, co-starring alongside Brooke Satchwell, Guy Simon and Clarence Ryan.
Tapsell created, writes and executive produces “Top End Bub” alongside Joshua Tyler, after the pair co-wrote “Top End Wedding.” Sebbens and Christian Van Vuuren both direct the series, which is produced by Goalpost Pictures.
“Top End Wedding” premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and sits at number 70 in the list of the top 100 Australian feature films at the local box office. An episodic follow-up was first announced in April 2024 and commenced shooting in May the same year.
“Being on set with this wonderful team and cast is inspiring. We’ve all been working on this for so long, so ‘finally’ being in production is like a fire in the belly, we are here, we are doing it and I just couldn’t be prouder,” said Tapsell when production began on “Top End Bub.”

“Prime Video are proud to be bringing back the beloved, hilarious and heart-warming characters of ‘Top End Wedding’ with the television spin-off ‘Top End Bub’ for Prime members in Australia and New Zealand,” advised Sarah Christie, now-Head of Australian Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, when the series was initially confirmed.
“Miranda Tapsell and Joshua Tyler have created a series that speaks straight to the heart, and celebrates the messiness and beauty of family, love, and community.”
Ahead of “Top End Bub’s” September arrival, Prime Video is also adding “Top End Wedding” to its Australian catalogue in August.
