John C. McGinley is the latest original cast member to join the “Scrubs” reboot currently in the works at ABC, Variety has learned.

McGinley will reprise the role of Dr. Perry Cox in the upcoming new iteration of the beloved comedy in a recurring guest star role. He is the latest original series cast member to join the show, alongside Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and the recently announced Judy Reyes. The new “Scrubs” was first reported to be in early development in December 2024, while Braff’s return was first reported in May. ABC picked the show up to series in July.

This marks the fifth collaboration between McGinley and original “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence. In addition to his nine seasons on “Scrubs,” McGinley also starred in Lawrence and Greg Malins’ TBS comedy “Ground Floor” and lent his voice to an episode of the animated series “Clone High,” which was created by Lawrence, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. McGinley will also appear in Lawrence and Matt Tarses’ upcoming HBO comedy series starring Steve Carell.

McGinley is also known for his roles in films like “Platoon,” “Wall Street,” “Office Space,” “The Rock,” and “Point Break.” He is repped by UTA and Yorn Levine Barnes.

The official logline for the new “Scrubs” states, “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”

Fellow “Scrubs” alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as executive producers and showrunners on the revival of the series, with Bill Lawrence executive producing via Doozer along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Braff, Faison, and Chalke are also executive producing in addition to starring. 20th Television is the studio. Lawrence remains under his overall deal at Warner Bros. Television, with that studio carving out room for Lawrence to work with his former studio partners on “Scrubs.”
