“Everybody Loves Raymond” stars Ray Romano and Brad Garrett reunited on the Emmys stage for a hilariously depressing bit while presenting the award for best comedy series.
The Emmy-winning actors, who starred as Ray and Robert Barone across nine seasons of the CBS sitcom, celebrated the 20 year anniversary of “Everybody Loves Raymond” winning the best comedy award.
“It feels a little different to be on the Emmys stage tonight than it did then. I don’t think we were wearing compression socks back then,” Romano said, to which Garrett replied: “Or hearing aids.”
Romano said he didn’t have one of those yet, and Garrett quipped: “I’ve got two.”

Romano then applauded Garrett for his three Emmy wins for best supporting actor in a comedy series. “You want to know something, Ray?” Garrett asked. “I just thought that I would have been back here sooner, you know? In some capacity.”
“I just thought for winning the Emmy I would have worked more, that’s all,” Garrett added, then turned to the audience. “Don’t think that if you win tonight your life is going to change. It’s not going to change!”
The actor continued his pity party, comparing himself to Romano, who “starred in a Scorsese film with De Niro,” while Garrett is doing a “guest shot on ‘The Dog Whisperer.’”
As Romano tried to cheer up his former co-star, Garrett got darker: “Let’s be honest: I think the next time I’m on the Emmys it will be in memoriam.”
“Just be honest with me, okay? Am I going to make the cut?” Garrett asked Romano, to which he replied, “What cut?”
“In memoriam.” Garrett deadpanned. “Just tell me. Just say it.”
Romano, trying to get on with announcing the winner of the category, looked down. “I mean… If it’s a slow year, no doubt,” he said to booming laughter.
Romano then assured the audience at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles that Garrett is doing just fine and owns a comedy club in Las Vegas. But before anyone could feel too happy for Garrett, he joked: “It’s in the food court!”
“If you were this funny back then, we could have won a couple more,” Romano said, referring to “Everybody Loves Raymond’s” 15 Emmy wins.
