“The cast and crew of ‘Emily in Paris’ are thrilled to begin filming Season 5 in the Eternal City,” creator Darren Star told Netflix when Season 5 began production in May. “From Parisian rooftops to Roman ruins, we can’t wait to share where Emily’s next chapter takes us.” The new season also filmed in Venice at the Danieli palace overlooking the lagoon.
Collins and Franceschini star alongside returning cast members Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert) and Lucien Laviscount (Alfie). Joining the cast for Season 5 is Minnie Driver, who will play Princess Jane, a royal friend of Emily’s boss Sylvie, as Variety previously revealed it.

Though Season 5 of “Emily in Paris” begins in Rome (picking up in the wake of Emily’s torrid Italian romance with Marcello) Star assured fans that the series will eventually return to its Parisian roots. “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome,” Star said. “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris.”

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” added Star. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”
The trailer also shows Lucas Bravo’s character, Gabriel, is done with the scruffy look of the last season and has gone back to his original hunky style, even boasting some blond highlights and California tan.

Bravo had shared some frustration over his “Emily in Paris” character, saying that he had been “turned into guacamole.” But Gabriel will return in season 5 to spearhead his Michelin-rated restaurant and potentially try to win back Emily.
At the end of Season 4, which premiered this summer, Gabriel has an epiphany and realizes he wants to be with Emily, but she had already fallen into the arms of Italian beau Marcello and moved into an apartment in Rome to run the local office for her marketing firm Agence Grateau.
