The premiere date for Andy Lee’s brand new animated TV series has officially been set.
It’s been confirmed that “Do Not Watch This Show,” based on the radio personality’s best-selling book series, “Do Not Open This Book,” will premiere at 6am on Friday, July 4 on ABC iview.
Per ABC: “Families will be delighted to defy Wizz, a blue monster who refuses to accept that he is the star of a TV show and is desperate for kids to switch it off. Wizz, voiced by Lee, goes to hilarious lengths to deter his audience, which only makes him more appealing.
“In each of the 12 episodes, the audience is desperate to answer the ultimate question – why doesn’t Wizz want us to watch the show? They will discover ridiculous, outrageous, limitless reasons why.”
The kid’s show will boast a stack of A-list Australian talent including Denise Scott, Joel Creasey, Dave Hughes, Glenn Robbins, Broden Kelly, Carrie Bickmore, Mick Molloy and, of course, Hamish Blake.
“That’s been six years we’ve been tinkering at that,” Lee said on a recent episode of “The Plug with Neil Griffiths” podcast.
“I’m voicing some characters, writing, and then executive producing. What’s amazing for me with regards to animation is I don’t know it. I’ve never done it and so it’s kind of freeing to have no idea because you have to get people in there to do it!
“I do struggle to let things go, so the fact I can’t even do it at all… I’m really enjoying it.”
The project is also the first Lee has ever done with ABC, who has featured heavily on Channel Nine with Blake in the past and “The Hundred with Andy Lee” series which recently wrapped its eighth season.
