Bob Dylan narrates the trailer for MGK‘s upcoming “Lost Americana” album, sources confirm to Variety. In a teaser clip uploaded to MGK‘s social media Tuesday, Dylan lends his gravelly voice for a dramatic reading describing MGK’s “Lost Americana,” calling it “a personal excavation of the American dream.”
“It’s a sonic map of forgotten places, a tribute to the spirit of reinvention and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom,” says Dylan as a VHS montage of the 35 year-old, sometimes-rapper, sometimes-rocker in the studio and overlooking mountaintops. “From the glow of neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. Where the past is reimagined, and the future is forged on your own terms.”
MGK has yet to publicly confirm Dylan narrated the clip, with his social media captions ending in “narrated by …” without revealing a name. He also shared a black-and-white photo of cultural icon via Instagram Stories, again without making any revelatory statements.
This isn’t the first time the pair have shared — seemingly — random headlines together. In February, Dylan posted a 2016 video of the Cleveland-bred artist performing at the Orlando, Florida, record shop Park Ave CDs without a caption. “You having a phone is so rad,” MGK wrote in the comments.
“Lost Americana,” the follow-up to MGK’s 2022’s “Mainstream Sellout,” is slated for Aug. 8. The album will feature his recent single, “Cliché,” which is one of many songs he’s shared this year, along with “Your Name Forever,” “Come Pick Me Up,” and a rendition of the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” with rising artist Julia Wolf.
