Nine Entertainment has announced the appointment of a key media industry figure to its board.
The company confirmed Peter Tonagh as an independent non-executive director, effective Tuesday, January 14th.
After serving as Foxtel’s chief financial officer (2004-2013) and chief operating officer (2011-2013), Tonagh took over the CEO position in 2016, after working in the same role at News Corp Australia in 2015.
Since leaving Foxtel in 2018, he has held a number of board positions, including at Village Roadshow as a lead independent director and deputy chair at the ABC.
During his five-month tenure at News Corp Australia, Tonagh was a director of REA Group Limited where he also acted as interim CEO for six months.
Tonagh currently serves as chair of data and analytics company, Quantium, as well as GTN Limited, Bus Stop Films and Honey Insurance.
I am delighted to have someone of Peter’s calibre and experience join the Nine Board,” Nine Chair Catherine West said.
“With his extensive career in media, and in data and digital businesses, I am confident Peter will prove a valuable addition to the Nine Board, not only for Nine’s contemporary business but also for our strategic aspirations for the future.
“I look forward to Peter making a strong contribution to Board deliberations.”
Tonagh added: “I am passionate about the media and its critical role in a democratic Australia – about the future of journalism, the opportunities of video and the further potential of digital marketplaces. I am excited about Nine’s leading position in the industry – about the powerful suite of assets it controls, and the opportunities for those assets to further evolve and work effectively together.
“I look forward to working with the Board and management to ensure shareholders benefit from the ongoing strength of Nine’s position.”
