Netflix has greenlit a new horror series that counts “Stranger Things” creators the Duffer brothers among its executive producers.

The series is currently titled “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” and hails from writer Haley Z. Boston. The official logline describes the show as “an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title…”

Boston created the series and also serves as executive producer and showrunner. The Duffers and Hilary Leavitt executive produce via Upside Down Pictures. Andrea Sperling also executive produces. Both Sperling and Upside Down are under overall deals at Netflix.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with dream partners Matt, Ross and Hilary to bring this unexpected and spine-tingling story to life through Haley’s uniquely riveting vision,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series (US & Canada) for Netflix.

“We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script. She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just… very Haley,” the Duffers added. “We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.”

Boston’s previous credits include writing on the Netflix shows “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” as well as “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” She also wrote for the Amazon series “Hunters.” Her directorial debut, the short film “Beach Logs Kill,” premiered at SXSW earlier this year.

She is repped by Kaplan / Perrone Entertainment and Yorn Levine Barnes.

News of the series order comes one day after Netflix revealed a first look at the final season of “Stranger Things.” Production on the last run of the megahit series is roughly halfway done. No premiere date has been set, but the season is expected to drop in 2025. Elsewhere in the world of “Stranger Things,” the stage play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” debuted in the West End in December.

Also under their overall deal, the Duffers are prepping the series “The Boroughs” to begin production in the fall, while they are also developing multiple other projects. Those include a “Stranger Things” spinoff and a live-action adaptation of “Death Note.”
