Selma Blair would have considered making a cameo on Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Cruel Intentions” TV series — but was never asked.
“I knew it was coming but I can’t believe I haven’t seen the trailer,” she told Variety on Thursday’s Power of Women event, hours after the trailer for the TV adaptation came out. “Maybe there will be a cameo or something but no, I haven’t been asked anything. I’m excited to see it.”
Blair portrayed the innocent Cecile Caldwell in the 1999 film, which is based on the classic novel “Dangerous Liaisons.” In the movie, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, Cecile fell for her cello instructor, Sean Patrick Thomas’ Ronald Clifford.
Thomas will appear in the upcoming Amazon series as Professor Hank Chadwick.
The new show follows students at Manchester College, a Washington, D.C.-adjacent university “where two ruthless step-siblings will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy,” per the official logline. “After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system at their school, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation, even if that means seducing the daughter of the vice president of the United States.”
The cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke and Brooke Lena Johnson.
As for what advice Blair would give the new cast, she kept it simple: “Enjoy every minute and be on time — and know your lines!”
The upcoming show is produced by Sony Pictures TV, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film. Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the film, will executive produce alongside Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Producers include Bruce Mellon, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.
All eight episodes of “Cruel Intentions” debut on November 21. Watch the trailer below:
