Post MaloneDoja CatJelly Roll and Rauw Alejandro will provide the music at the 2024 Global Citizen Festival, a concert set to kick off New York’s musical autumn on Sept. 28. The annual gathering will be held, as always, on Central Park’s Great Lawn, with free tickets available by using Global Citizen’s app to take action toward one of the advocacy organization’s key missions.

Hugh Jackman is set to host, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin — a longtime friend of Global Citizen — and Jane Goodall due for special appearances. Additional performers beyond the aforementioned four are due to be announced in weeks to come.

Global Citizen’s lineups are typically as diverse as possible, to draw in as many different demographics as is reasonably possible to be exposed to the org’s action plans for ending poverty, increasing equity and fighting climate change. This year, there is arguably a bit of overlap, with Jelly Roll being a country star and Post Malone being a sometimes-country star — but generally these headliners bring in distinct audiences.

Last year, the 2023 bill was led by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Jung Kook. The Global Citizen Festival began in 2012, and it was announced in 2015 that Chris Martin would serve as its curator for the following 15 years. Up to 60,000 people attend the annual shows.

Said Doja Cat in a statement, “It’s been a few years since I was last on the Global Citizen Festival stage in Paris, and I’m excited to join forces with Global Citizen once again in Central Park this September to drive as much action as we can to make the world a better place. We all have a part we can play to help end extreme poverty and stand up for equity. I’m looking forward to being part of this major evening of positive change.”

Tickets can be earned by using the Global Citizen app or logging on at globalcitizenfestival.com to send messages to governments and private sector leaders advocating for policies that will help some of the world’s most endangered communities.

The 2024 Global Citizen Festival is being produced by Diversified Production Services. Live Nation is its production partner, iHeartMedia is the exclusive domestic audio partner, and New York City Parks is the location partner. Citi and Cisco are the festival presenters.

There are three “urgent action” items on Global Citizen’s agenda. Under the heading of “Defeat Poverty,” the org is calling on the G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the U.K. and the U.S.) to increase their support for worldwide anti-poverty programs, including substantially increased contributions to the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund dedicated to defeating poverty in the 75 lowest-income countries in the world. “Defend the Planet” involves a call for businesses, philanthropic foundations and governments to invest $1 billion in protecting the Amazon rainforest, with some of that earmarked for the indigenous communities that are best able to do that, under the conviction that this forestry is essential to slowing climate change. And “Demand Equity” calls for access for the poor to nutritious foods, healthcare systems and education.

For the festival, Global Citizen is aligning with nonprofits from across New York’s five boroughs as well as the partners in its international network.
