Jennifer Lawrence is teaming up once again with A24 for a movie adaptation of “Why Don’t You Love Me?,” the darkly comedic 2023 graphic novel by Paul B. Rainey.

Robert Funke (“On Becoming a God in Central Florida”) is writing the screenplay, as the search for a director is underway. Lawrence is also a producer alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver; Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner of Square Peg are also on board. Rainey executive produces.

“Why Don’t You Love Me?” follows a miserable couple, Claire and Mark, struggling through their marriage while “feeling like something is not quite right in their reality,” teases A24. The graphic novel has been described as a “pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression and mourning lost opportunities,” with surprising twists along the way.

Lawrence launched the production company Excellent Cadaver in 2018 and teamed with A24 for the release of its first film, 2022’s “Causeway,” which landed Brian Tyree Henry an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. Since then, Excellent Cadaver has boarded Sahra Mani’s documentary “Bread & Roses,” about women in Afghanistan and the role of the Taliban since 2021, and produced “No Hard Feelings,” an R-rated sex comedy that earned Lawrence a Golden Globe nod.

As recently announced, Lawrence will also star in “The Wives,” a “Real Housewives”-inspired murder mystery movie for Apple Original Films and A24. Lawrence and Ciarrocchi are producing with Excellent Cadaver, and Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey are on board via their bb2 banner.

Funke is represented at CAA, Mosaic and Lichter Grossman. Rainey is represented by Gersh, who handled the deal for the book. Excellent Cadaver is repped by LBI.
