An interview between broadcaster and journalist, Leigh Sales, and “Hamilton” creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, will screen on ABC TV and ABC iView on Saturday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Promotion for the interview said Miranda was honest and candid with Sales about the challenges he faced in bringing “Hamilton” to the stage and shared secrets about the show.

The interview was conducted on the “Hamilton” stage at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre in Brisbane.

The Australian leg of the hyper-successful musical has been running since March 2021. The production has travelled to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The Australian production must close on April 23. Miranda will also pay homage to the depth of talent in the Australian company in his interview with Sales.

“Hamilton” is based on the 2004 book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow, and first premiered on Broadway in August 2015.

The musical tells the story of Hamilton, “the founding father” of the U.S., but casts people of colour as the Founding Fathers and other historical figures.

Miranda has previously said he felt an enormous responsibility to be as historically accurate as possible, while telling the most dramatic story possible.

“This is a story about America then, told by America now, and we want to eliminate any distance between a contemporary audience and this story,” he told The Atlantic.

The show has won Tony, Grammy and Olivier Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

A filmed version of the original Broadway cast was released on Disney Plus in 2020.
