Disney has told a global media audience that consumers are set to be overwhelmed, moved and entertained by its content offering in 2023.

Speaking at the Disney Content Showcase APAC, Luke Kang, president of The Walt Disney Company in APAC, said the company is only just getting started.

“For almost 100 years, The Walt Disney Company has brought iconic stories and characters to consumers all over the world, becoming a part of the fabric of global storytelling,” he said.

“Everything we do from our theatrical releases to our award-winning shows on Disney Plus are anchored in the pursuit towards creative excellence and quality storytelling,” he added, suggesting the company aspires to captivate and inspire the imagination.

The company also spruiked its local content credentials in the APAC region, noting it is increasingly focused on investing in areas with local specificity, catering to local tastes, genres and storytelling and then taking those stories to the world stage.

This, he said, was part of an ambitious long-term plan to uncover the world’s best stories from the region.

In addition, he noted the ongoing growth of its streaming services in APAC’s various markets.

“In the world of streaming, we’ve had a fantastic start with the continued growth of Disney Plus [across the region],” he said.

Over the past year, he said, the company had launched over 45 APAC titles, something which is only set to increase.

“We’re only just getting started,” Kang enthused.

At the Disney Content Showcase APAC 2022 event, the company has so far shown first-looks and sneak peaks at “The Little Mermaid” – including Halle Bailey’s full performance of “Part of Your World” – “Peter Pan and Wendy” (a live action remake of “Peter Pan”), “Indiana Jones 5”, animated feature film “Wish”, various Marvel Studios offerings including “Ant Man and The Wasp Quantumania”, and “Mufasa: The Lion King”.
