The Logie Awards winners have been revealed, marking a triumphant return for television’s night of nights following a two-year hiatus caused by extended COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures.
The host of “Lego Masters Australia,” Hamish Blake, collected the coveted Gold Logie at Australian television’s annual awards gala on Sunday night, which returned to the Gold Coast.
Blake also won the inaugural Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter, while “Lego Masters” secured the gong for Most Outstanding Entertainment or Comedy Program.
Blake said he was “in awe” of all the nominees after beating out Julia Morris, Karl Stefanovic, Sonia Kruger, Tom Gleeson, Ray Meagher and MasterChef Australia newcomer, Melissa Leong for the win.
“Lego Masters is just an escape from everything,” Blake added. “And I really bring it down to the contestants and their love and passion for building Lego.”
Among the highlights from Sunday’s ceremony, which was broadcast on Channel 9, included ABC News Breakfast’s Tony Armstrong winning the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.
Australian sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney was inducted into the Logie Awards Hall of Fame for his nearly five decades of service.
The awards showcased performances by Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes and his son and host of CHannel 9’s “Today Extra,” David Campbell, along with Jessica Mauboy, Tim Minchin and Calum Scott.
