International screen star Rupert Everett has joined the cast of the ABC’s upcoming crime thriller “Fortitude Valley,” which is currently filming across Brisbane.
The six-part drama will see Everett star alongside Hunter Page-Lochard (“The Newsreader,” “Reckless”) and Kat Stewart (“Offspring,” “Black Snow”), with the series slated to premiere on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2027.
Set against the backdrop of Queensland’s capital, “Fortitude Valley” is a suspense-driven crime drama exploring family secrets, political influence and the consequences of deception. Production is taking place across Brisbane’s CBD and surrounding inner-city suburbs.
Everett takes on the role of James Demming, a former Londoner who built a property empire after arriving in Brisbane during the 1980s. Decades later, his wealth and influence have positioned him as a powerful political figure, though his activities have attracted the attention of a determined police detective.
The British actor, known for films including “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” praised both the production and the city during filming. “I am thrilled to be here in Brisbane working with so many brilliant actors who are upping my game – on a wonderful show. The experience has been great. Hard work but very productive. The crew are fantastic. The city is beautiful. I feel very lucky,” he said.
The project marks another high-profile Australian television role for Everett and adds international star power to a production led by local creatives.
“Fortitude Valley” was created by Moving Floor Entertainment co-founders Stephen M. Irwin and Leigh McGrath, alongside Page-Lochard, who also serves as a writer and executive producer on the series. Sian Davies (“Black Snow”) directs, with Andrew Walker (“Deadloch”) producing and Ross Allsop (“The Artful Dodger”) co-producing. Greg Sitch (“Fisk”) is among the executive producers.
