“Abbott Elementary” has been renewed for Season 6 at ABC, the network announced Wednesday.
The news comes on the same day the show resumes its fifth season, with a new episode set to air tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on the broadcast network. Season 5 originally premiered on Oct. 1.
“Abbott Elementary” has become a cornerstone of ABC’s primetime scripted lineup, with the show remaining highly popular even this late in its run. It is also one of the only pure comedies that ABC currently airs, alongside the multi-cam “Shifting Gears” with Tim Allen and Kat Dennings and the recently launched revival of “Scrubs.” “Abbott Elementary” has received 30 Emmy nominations to date, with four wins.
Series creator Quinta Brunson stars in the show alongside Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti, Lisa Ann Walter, William Stanford Davis, and Emmy Award winner Sheryl Lee Ralph.

“In this workplace comedy, a group of dedicated, passionate teachers — and a slightly tone-deaf principal — are brought together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life. Though these incredible educators may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do — even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.”
In addition to starring in and creating the series, Brunson serves as an executive producer alongside Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn and Brian Rubenstein. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television.
