Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi brought “Wuthering Heights” home to Australia on Thursday night (February 12th), closing out their press tour with a star-studded Sydney premiere.
The Australian pair descended on the iconic State Theatre for the film’s local premiere, joined by special guests including Hailey Bieber – who is in town for the launch of her beauty brand Rhode – and Taren Edgerton, among many others.
Styled by Andrew Mukamal, Robbie wore an Ashi Studio Couture look channelling her inner Catherine Earnshaw. The 18th-century corsetted gown was distressed with a hand-painted bodice, a nod to the themes of marriage and decay in Emerald Fennell’s film. Elordi was styled by Wendi Ferreira and Nicole DeJulio, wearing a grey suit and a dark tie.
Robbie and Elordi have gushed about their closeness at length during the last few weeks, and they seem to adore each other. “I loved working with Jacob,” Robbie told Refinery29 Australia on the red carpet. “We’re both Queenslanders, so I think we immediately got along on that front. And we had an amazing script and an amazing crew, an amazing group around us, we just all had so much fun making this movie.”
While the rain dampened the evening, Robbie saw it as an opportunity. “If you haven’t kissed in the rain, you should do it,” she added. “It’s raining right now. Find someone. It’s almost Valentine’s Day, go have a smooch in the rain, it’s great!”

After attending the opening night at the State Theatre, Robbie and Elordi made an appearance at the Westpac OpenAir Cinema to surprise more than 1.700 people who were gathered to watch the film on its first night in cinemas.
The audience erupted as Robbie and Elordi were welcomed to the front of the cinema, framed by the spectacular Sydney Harbour backdrop. The unexpected visit left moviegoers buzzing as the screening commenced under the stars.
The 2026 film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s book “Wuthering Heights” is a Gothic story, following the intense, destructive, and obsessive love between Heathcliff, an orphan, and Catherine Earnshaw on the Yorkshire moors. After Catherine marries Edgar Linton, a scorned Heathcliff orchestrates a decades-long revenge campaign, ruining the lives of both families.
Written and directed by Emerald Fennell, who also created 2023’s “Saltburn” and 2020’s “Promising Young Women” among other films, Robbie and Elordi star in “Wuthering Heights” alongside Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell in supporting roles.
