Former Netflix VP Tony Zameczkowski has joined The Walt Disney Company as its new Senior Vice President and General Manager, Direct-To-Consumer, Asia Pacific.

Reporting to APAC President Luke Kang and Disney Entertainment’s Direct-To-Consumer President Joe Earley, Zameczkowski will develop the company’s streaming business, Disney+, in APAC.

“We are thrilled to have Tony lead our Direct-to-Consumer business as we continue to bolster Disney+ across APAC,” Kang said of the appointment.

“We have made significant progress building streaming into a core driver and establishing Disney+ as one of the leading players in this region. I believe Tony’s unique background in scaling businesses across media, entertainment and technology sectors will help accelerate our next stage of development in this vibrant and high-growth region.”

He will build on the momentum Disney+ has had in recent months, following the successful launch of ESPN in Australia and New Zealand, and the increased slate of originals from Korea, Japan and Australia. This includes the second season of Japanese live action “Gannibal”, which was the most-viewed premiere in Q2 and the fastest title to reach one million hours streamed on the service.

In the coming months, new APAC originals will be available on the streamer, including “Tempest”, “Disney Twisted Wonderland: The Animation” and “Cat’s Eye”.

Zameczkowski joins The Walt Disney Company after nearly a decade at Netflix, where he was most recently VP and Regional Co-Head and Head of Partnerships for APAC. He was a founding leader in the region, having spearheaded the company’s expansion through strategic partnerships and multichannel campaigns.

Prior to that, he held various roles at YouTube, Victorious and Warner Bros. International Television.

Expanding the international streaming audience is a priority for Disney, and APAC is a region with “immense growth opportunities to unlock”, according to Zameczkowski.

“I have always admired Disney’s unmatched leadership in the entertainment space and its ability to remain modern and relevant to consumers over its storied history,” he said.
