Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan will travel to Sydney next month for the Australian premiere of Disney’s “Freakier Friday.”
The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand confirmed the pair will walk the purple carpet at Event Cinemas Westfield Bondi on Tuesday, August 5th, in partnership with Westfield Bondi.
“Freakier Friday” is the sequel to the 2003 film “Freaky Friday,” which saw Curtis and Lohan play mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman, who swap bodies after a magical mishap. The new film revisits the Colemans years later. Anna is now a mother with a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, setting the stage for another unexpected switch.
Several cast members from the original film return, including Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. They join new cast additions Manny Jacinto (“The Acolyte,” “The Good Place”), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (“Never Have I Ever)”, Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters.
The sequel marks 22 years since the release of the original film, which became a box office success and developed a strong fan following.
“Freakier Friday” opens in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, August 7th.
The Australian premiere is expected to draw fans of the original film as well as a new audience for the follow-up, which Disney describes as a “multigenerational twist” on the body-swap comedy.
Here’s the official plot description: “A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
The Sydney event is presented by Disney in collaboration with Westfield Bondi.
