Wrexham AFC Kick Off Sydney Match With Beer and Fan-Experience

Wrexham AFC Kick Off Sydney Match

You’ve seen the series, bought the merch and a ticket to a game. Now, Wrexham AFC fans can support their team with a drop of the official amber nectar.

Ahead of Wrexham’s Tuesday night friendly against Sydney FC, BWS Paddington will turn on its colours for a pre-match fan experience.

From 4–5pm, several stars of “Welcome to Wrexham” will meet and greet with punters and pull the trigger on door prizes.

Among the Wrexham regulars will be Wayne Jones, landlord of The Turf Hotel; Ben Foster, former England and Manchester United goalkeeper; and Ben Tozer, ex-club captain and long-throw specialist.

The fan event doubles as a launch pad for Wrexham Lager in Australia, available for a limited time at select BWS stores across New South Wales and Victoria.

A 4% ABV brew, Wrexham Lager was originally founded in 1882, and is recognised as the official beer of Wrexham AFC.

“Wrexham AFC’s rise has captured the hearts of fans around the world, and we’re thrilled to help bring that excitement to Aussie shores,” comments Sarah Chegwidden, Head of Retail Marketing & Planning at BWS. This activation, she continues, “is about more than a product on the shelf, it’s about connecting fans with the culture, energy and spirit of the club they love.”

“Welcome to Wexham” is a Cinderella story with a Hollywood twist. It’s the true tale of a storied Welsh club, one of the oldest in professional association football team, with a die-hard fanbase, languishing after a long run of poor form and financial woe.

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac swooped in, bought the club and promised to rebuild, while gaining the trust of the suspicious faithful.

Fast forward to the fourth season, which premiered in mid-May on Apple +, and the team is on a sharp upward trajectory. The once cellar-dwellers have enjoyed three consecutive promotions, rising from the National League to the Championship in just three seasons.

With this historic run, they’re now just one tier from the Premiership, arguably the finest league of soccer on the planet. Each year, three teams from the Championship are promoted to the EPL, and with it the promise of broadcast riches, while three are relegated from the Premiership, and a proverbial kick-in the pants for the quad and their supporters. It’s a system that guarantees attention for the teams going up, and misery for those going down.

Wrexham opened their account on this offseason tour of Australia and New Zealand with a 3-0 win last Friday over Melbourne Victory in front of nearly 40,000 people at Marvel Stadium.

Kick-off is 7.30pm Wednesday night at Allianz Stadium.

“Welcome to Wrexham” is executive produced by Mac, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas. It’s produced by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment and Boardwalk Pictures.
