Praise Kier! “Severance” has been renewed for Season 3.

The news comes the day after the Season 2 finale of the Apple TV+‘s workplace thriller.

What started as a niche sci-fi mystery with a cult following became Apple TV+’s most-watched series ever during its second season run, according to the streamer.

In the series, created by Dan Erickson and directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, Adam Scott stars as Mark Scout, a man who undergoes a procedure that separates his work life and personal life. As Mark’s “outie” grieves the loss of his wife, his “innie” lives an entirely different existence behind the walls of the shady biotech company Lumon. Of course, Lumon and its experimental severance procedure aren’t exactly what they are advertised to be.

In Season 1, Mark and his co-workers Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Irving (John Turturro) launch a rebellion against the company by figuring out how to awaken their innie selves in the outside world. In Season 2, they explore and grapple with the disturbing truths they learn about themselves outside the office.

The sci-fi mystery series had built a strong audience in the three-year gap between the launch of its first and second season. Creator Erickson told Variety ahead of the Season 2 premiere that “a lot is mapped out” for Season 3, and “there is an endpoint for the series as a whole, and we know more or less how many seasons we are going to do.”

Executive producing alongside Stiller and Erickson are Nicholas Weinstock, Jackie Cohn, Mark friedman, Andrew Colville, Chris Black, John Cameron, Beau Willimon, Caroline Baron, Jordan Tappis and Scott. Fifth Season, Red Hour Productions, Westward and Animals & People are the production companies.

“Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” Stiller said in a statement. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple and the whole ‘Severance’ team,” said Scott. “Oh hey also — not a huge deal — but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

“The idea of getting to make more ‘Severance’ with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined,” said Erickson. “I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people.”

“What Ben, Dan, Adam and the talented cast and crew behind ‘Severance’ have brought to the screen is undeniable magic,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “We’re so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing what’s in store for Season 3.”
