Sex Lives of College Girls” has been canceled at Max, Variety has confirmed.

The series aired for three seasons at the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service. Season 3 of the show debuted in November, with the season finale airing on Jan. 25. The show itself originally premiered on Max in 2021.

Mindy Kaling co-created the series with Justin Noble under her overall deal with studio Warner Bros. Television. Per the official logline, it “follows a group of college students at New England’s prestigious Essex College.”

Reps for WBTV declined to comment, but according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the studio is currently shopping the show to other outlets.

The cast for Season 3 included Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers. Reneé Rapp was a series regular for the first two seasons, but only recurred in Season 3 and had announced she would be leaving the show after the season concluded.

Kaling and Noble were both executive producers on the series, with Noble also serving as showrunner. Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment was also an executive producer. Kaling produced via Kaling International. As mentioned, WBTV was the studio.

Max does not typically release viewership information for its originals, but the first two seasons of “Sex Lives of College Girls” were highly critically acclaimed. Seasons 1 and 2 scored a 97% and 93% respectively in the Rotten Tomatoes critical approval ratings. Season 3 was not as well received, though, holding just 29% approval based on seven critics’ reviews.

Max’s current original comedy slate consists of: “Hacks,” which is preparing to release its fourth season; “And Just Like That,” which is prepping its third season; and “Peacemaker,” which will air its second season later this year.

Deadline first reported the cancellation news.
